A significant portion of these criticisms stem from objections to The Veilguard's companions being canonically pansexual, with some arguing that such inclusivity dilutes the characters’ personalities. Others have expressed dissatisfaction with the game’s diverse cast for a variety of reasons.
In a recent comment, Gaider addressed these complaints by pointing out that the same critics are upset over how "woke" the new Dragon Age is, as if this is a surprising development for the series. In a post on Bluesky, Gaider referred to these critics as "f*****g tourists," implying that they are not true fans of the franchise. He suggested that those familiar with Dragon Age would know that its themes of diversity and inclusivity have been part of the series since its first release in 2009, long before the term "woke" became a popular buzzword.
Gaider later clarified that he doesn’t mind if people like or dislike what they've seen of The Veilguard so far. His issue, he explained, was with the idea that the upcoming installment introduces a new level of "wokeness" to the franchise.
